Peer Leadership Training

PLT encourages youth in learning leadership, communication and substance refusal skills. Large and small group workshops, presentations and discussions afoord a positive and creative learning experience. The conference is two days and one night. There are two sessions offered: one for youth in high school and the other is for middle school youth.

The Collaborative invites middle school youth to participate in its annual Middle School Peer Leadership Training (MS PLT).  These two days are filled with informational workshops, fun, peer groups, laughter, delicious food, community meetings and games. Workshops are presented on such topics as communication, role modelling, peer pressure, presentation skills and refusal skills. Workshops are lead by both prevention professionals and high school youth who have completed group leadership training. Each year MS PLT has a different theme and  we offer different presenters and new information.

High school leaders are an integral part of MS PLT. HS leaders lead workshops and games. They are role models who offer guidance and support. They encourage learning, foster acceptance and promote substance-free FUN! Get Involved!

2009 MS PLT

The 2009 MS PLT focused on substance-use prevention, leadership, communication, and advocacy skill development.  The focus was on educating youth on how to advocate for their peers and as individuals. Workshops helped youth to find a voice and the wherewithal to make a clear, consistent and powerful statement expressing individual and/or group views, needs and goals. Students who have come in the past should participate again.
